Fabrics

Here are descriptions and color choices for the different fabrics that I use for my products.

Duffel and Shoulder Bags

Outer fabric:
1000Denier Cordura™ Nylon. This uber-classic, super abrasion resistant fabric has stood the test of time. There are many imitators of this great fabric. Alpine Threadworks is proud to use the original: genuine, made in the USA, DuPont® Cordura™. Colour approximations:

Black
Royal Blue
Army Green
Chocolate Brown
Smoke Grey
Ferrari Red

Liner fabric:
18oz. Truck tarp/dry bag fabric. Outstanding waterprooffness and tensile strength. Colour approximations:

Black
Sunflower Yellow

Backpacks

420 Denier high-tenacity, PU coated, rip-stop nylon. I was able to buy this incredible backpack fabric from a high-end outdoor company also based in Canada. (They did not want me to say where I got it from.) Excellent strength to weight ratio. Great snow shedding ability and waterproofing. Colors are: light red, blood red and inkspot blue.

The above fabric is what I use for the main portion of backpacks. The below fabrics are complementary fabrics that are/can be used in certain areas on backpacks.

Dyneema ripstop nylon. Super strong nylon fabric with dyneema ripstop grid. This is used for the top draw cuff on packs. Color: black with white ripstop grid.

DX40 Dyneema X-Pac from Dimension-Polyant. This 4-layer laminated composite fabric is the strongest fabric I have ever seen. Dyneema/polyester rip-stop face fabric, polyester X-grid, waterproof laminate, 50 denier liner. A truly remarkable fabric. Dyneema is 15 times stronger than steel, 40% stronger than kevlar and a single thread of dyneema can hold 150LBS! Using this fabric in high wear areas on Packs is an optional upgrade. Color: White.

1680 Denier Ballistic Nylon. Classic workhorse tough, super-beefy, nylon fabric. A great lower cost alternative to the DX40 to use on high wear areas. Color: Black.

Ski Guides Rescue Tarp Fabrics

Outer portions of tarp: 30Denier rip-stop, silicone-impregnated nylon. Classic "Sil-Tarp" fabric. Lightweight & Waterproof. Color: yellow.

The middle section of tarp can be one of the following 2 fabrics:

  1. VX07 Dimension-Polyant X-Pac composite. This fabric is a 4 layer, laminated sandwidch of: 50denier high-tenacity, rip-stop nylon outer, polyester x-grid, waterproof layer, then a 50denier polyester liner. The x-grid layer gives excellent tensile strength and having the waterproof layer laminated in the middle means that the waterproofing is not exposed to getting damaged.

  3. TX07 Dimension Polyant X-Pac composite. 30Denier high-tenacity, rip-stop nylon outer, polyester X-grid, PU waterproof coating. Selecting this fabric makes your SGRT 107 grams lighter then a tarp made with VX07.

Note: a tarp made with VX07is 750 grams and a tarp with TX07 is 650 grams.
